What's Your Style?

Finding Your Style For Maximum Comfort at Home
Posted: January 30, 2019 by Jessica Wimberly

Style. We all have it.

Some of us know exactly what it is. Many of us have no clue and most definitely would not know what name to give it once we did figure it out.

Whether you realize it or not - style plays a large part on how spaces make you feel. Especially the spaces inside your own home. And let's be honest, we all want to be able to come home from our busy days and relax to the max by way of having every part of our house feel like HOME.

With that being said (and because who doesn't love a good test on design preference?!), we wanted to share with you some of the main design styles that can help you help your home become the place that you don't ever want to leave.

We are also going to add in some key words that help define your style. These are extremely helpful when you are on the house hunt! If you know your style, knowing what verbiage to look for in the property descriptions of homes listed online will help you narrow down what you are really looking for.

Let's get started!

FARMHOUSE:

I think we can all know that this style did not form it's existence in the city. If you are fan of original, homemade pieces that maybe even have a little story behind them - this could be you. You like your space to feel grounded and you appreciate the look of aged materials.

Words to look for:
Cottage.
Aged.
Distressed.
Wide Planks.
Exposed Brick.
Porches.
Organic.

INDUSTRIAL:

You love the feel of an urban environment in it's unfinished form - like exposed ductwork, concrete floors, and exposed brick. You prefer multiuse and efficiency over anything else and you are innovative in your style thoughts. (Did you know that downtown Shreveport has spaces for you to live out your industrial style? Winner!)

Words to look for:
Loft.
Open Concept.
Unrefined.
Metal.
Concrete.
Exposed Detail.

TRADITIONAL:

You enjoy items that tell a story deep in history. Embellishments and classic shapes are most definitely high on your wish list. Your dream home probably would be composed of heavy trim work, built-in cabinets for all rooms, and paneled doors throughout. Traditional style runs deep in the South and there are so many to choose from in NWLA.

Words to look for:
Classic.
Craftsmanship.
Polished.
Antique.
Sophisticated.
Timeless.
Historic.

MODERN:

You prefer clean lines with a very minimal look. You more than likely would love to fill your home with abstract art and simple furniture pieces. You are far from sentimental and focus more on form and function. We may be a little biased, but there is just something about crisp, clean lines that make everything right in the world.

Words to look for:
Midcentury.
Contemporary.
Minimal.
Artistic.
Retro.

RUSTIC:

You enjoy all form of nature and like to focus on textures and materials, especially organic ones. Wood beams, naturals stones, and real hardwood floors are your thing. Mountain homes and beach casitas make your heart happy.

Words to look for:
Ranch.
Southwestern.
Natural Stone.
Terra Cotta.
Stucco.
Cabin.

BOHO:

Your style is carefree and rich with vibrant colors and quirky character. Your home is well-loved and it shows.

Words to look for:
Eclectic.
Vintage.
Whimsical.
Unconventional.
Quirky Details.
